That, however, was not to be as the Lagos meeting, presided over by Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, who doubles as APC leader in Rivers State, gave Cole the nod. Other party leaders at the Lagos meeting included oil magnate, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs; the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside; a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Chief Sam Jaja and Senator Andrew Uchendu (Rivers East). He said that Bafarawa was one of the aspirants he trusted, because of what he had done in Sokoto state as governor. “As leaders, we must plan for our grandchildren; we don’t have to plan for ourselves, but for the society to grow. “When you plan for your grandchildren, you do things properly; you will not be in a hurry and the society will grow. “The more people are interested, the better for the party. Image
All the presidential aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are to sign an undertaking that they will not defect after the presidential primary election. The undertaken would also be for those that lose to support the candidate of the party for the 2019 presidential election. The decisions were taken in Abuja Wednesday night when all the aspirants met with members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. One of the aspirants and former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, confirmed this in Minna Thursday while answering questions from newsmen after addressing potential delegates and other stakeholders of the party at its secretariat. “This is an issue that came up last night, we had our first meeting with members of the National Working Committee. “It was agreed that before the conduct of the primaries, there will be more meetings. Xenophobia: Three killed in Soweto – South African Police.

The Police on Thursday said three people were killed during shooting in Johannesburg’s sprawling Soweto township. The police also confirmed that 27 people have so far been arrested in the violence, which had a xenophobic component. “I can confirm that two were shot and one was stabbed,” police spokesman Lungelo Dlamini said on local television channel eNCA. “The number of arrests has risen up to 27,” he added – two for murder and most of the others for the public violence that broke out on Wednesday. Dlamini said some foreign nationals living in Soweto had taken refuge in a police station for fear of being targeted. “It is believed that the violence was sparked by accusations that shop owners within the community had allegedly been selling counterfeit and expired goods,” Johannesburg’s mayor Herman Mashaba said in a statement. Mashaba called for calm. Many of the small shops selling basic goods in South Africa’s township...

President Buhari receives Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Image
I was very pleased to welcome Prime Minister May to the State House earlier today. Even as we nervously watch developments regarding Brexit, the United Kingdom is assured of our government’s determination to strengthen the relationship between our two countries. The UK is a very important and strategic country to Nigeria, especially in defence and security, and in trade and investment. Nigeria remains ever grateful for the security assistance we’ve been getting, particularly in training and capacity-building. Our Meeting also provided an opportunity for me to assure Prime Minister May of my total commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections in 2019. Nigeria has come to fully accept multiparty democracy, and this is putting politicians on their toes. https://t.co/JqGT5MluhW
