A woman shocked doctors when she gave birth to a ‘cyclops’ baby with one eye – but sadly lost her seven hours later. Atana Ariyanto and his wife Suriyanti from Java island in Indonesia, welcomed their fifth child, a girl, at the Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Hospital of Mandailing Natal district in North Sumatra on Thursday afternoon through a natural birth.  But the baby, who weighed 5lbs, was born with only one eye in the middle of her forehead and a missing nose, although her other organs were complete. Suriyanti hadn’t undergone an ultrasound and was so shocked to see her daughter that she, along with her husband, shut herself away in the room. Doctors had put the baby under intensive care where a team of medical staff monitored her condition every 15 minutes, but she tragically passed away at 10.44pm the same night.  Dr Syarifuddin Nasution, head of the Mandailing Natal District Health Office said: “The baby girl was born in a condition of abno...

2019: Ambode May Withdraw From Governorship Race

Image
Barring any last minute change, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode may withdraw from the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State slated for September 25 and throw his weight behind the candidate endorsed by the most influential political group in the state, the Mandate Group. With just nine days to the direct primaries to select the governorship candidate of the party, credible sources in the party said the governor’s second term ambition may be a foregone conclusion given the stiff resistance to his reelection bid by his political benefactor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the stakeholders in the Mandate Group. Despite interventions by President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, APC national chairman as well as traditional and religious leaders, they have not been able to secure a firm commitment from Tinubu to support Ambode for the race. According to sources, Tinubu met Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in Abuja at the week...

Governors, Senators Rift Threatens Buhari’s Re-election

The current political logjam between some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and members of the National Assembly in their states, may negatively affect the electoral fortunes of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 16, 2019 presidential election, Sunday Telegraph has learnt. While the governors are out to stop the senators from returning to the National Assembly, the aggrieved lawmakers have vowed not to leave the APC but to stay in the party and work against it in the 2019 general elections. The APC leadership had in the heat of the defection gale that hit the Senate, in which it lost 14 of its lawmakers to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), promised automatic tickets to the party’s senators, but the senatorial ambition of out-going governors is threatening the arrangement. The governors, who have declared intention to take over from the senators representing their respective senatorial districts are Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe), Abdulaziz Yari (...
